Cultural Township Tour

Plettenberg Bay

Activity Description

Guests are asked to check in at the Ocean Blue Adventures Shop, which is located in the Milkwood Centre, Hopwood Street, Plettenberg Bay, approximately 15 minutes before the planned departure time.

Here you will sign in for the tour and meet your guide, who is a resident of the Qolweni community you are about to visit. You will be given a bottle of water and snack for the tour. Guests will be accompanied by the guide in their own vehicle to a safe parking area adjacent to the township.

From there you will walk to the Siyakhula crèche, meeting some of the locals along the way. At the crèche, you will be entertained by the kids with songs and a look at their school. Please note that the crèche is closed over the weekend and in school holidays, in which case the tour will focus on meeting the locals and learning about the history and culture of the area.

At the end of the tour, you will return to Ocean Blue and bid farewell to your guide.

Trip duration is 1 to 1.5 hours.

###How does the community benefit:###
The funds raised through the township tours and a percentage of Ocean Blue Adventures’ turnover gets utilized to pay Teachers Salaries and towards the maintenance of the Qolweni crèche.
This gives all children the opportunity for the education they deserve.
This allows their parents to seek employment knowing their children are well looked after and fed.
The trust also creates jobs by employing teachers for the crèche.
Currently the crèche has a principal and 7 teachers looking after 240 children.
Ocean Blue is now in the process of building another classroom to accommodate more children, bringing our number of classrooms to 5.

Ocean Blue understands that Community Development and Upliftment is a very important aspect of implementing our ideals. That being, Realistic and Marine Mammal conservation.
Therefore we chose to work together with the most disadvantaged sector of our community through the formation of the Qolweni community Development Trust
